For those who are tired of a sticky dance floor, tired bathrooms and the lingering smell of beer, the new Anthem is for you. For those who love great sound, more popular alt bands and a venue where there is no bad seat, the new Anthem is for you. For those who love and value independent music and organizations that support them, IMP’s new Anthem is for your. For those who are done battling traffic to see a show at Merriweather or Jiffy Lube, The Anthem is for you.

I was one of the lucky few who nabbed tickets to both of the Anthem’s sneak peak shows. Here’s a brief rundown:

Sneak Peak #1

  • Ummmm how do I get to the Warf? It’s been a long time.
  • Parking Panda snafu…I love this app but it hadn’t kept up with all of the construction. No worries, it got sorted out
  • Met friend EA in a very very long line to get in. Quel suprise, the line wrapped around a city block. Thankfully she was wearing yellow and was easy to spot.
  • I wonder who the band(s) will be? IMP is keeping everything on the DL.
  • Bag check, security wand, ticket check, ID check, wrist band. And we’re in!
  • Wow, what a venue! And the Warf is going to be a great place to eat, shop and hang out.
  • See pictures below. The venue is beautiful.
  • First band up…the first band that opened the 9:30 Club. Can’t remember their name but two notables are:
    • Drummer is Fugazi’s former drummer
    • Keyboardist is NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert host Bob Boilen
  • Second band up…Bat Fangs. Wow this trio can rock. I would see them again (U Street or DC9?). A notable:
    • Drummer (?) is also with Ex Hex
  • Third band was The Messthetics, a new project of Brendan Canty, Joe Lally, and Anthony Pirog. You may be familiar with Canty and Lally from their time with a band you may know…um…Fugazi.

Sneak Peak #2

  • I know where I’m going and the parking sitch is fixed
  • No line, cool. Still don’t know who the band(s) will be.
  • See the merch table…who is Andrew WK? Text all-knowing sister.
  • Oh good lord…this is not the band for me.
  • Home by 9

See future posts for my fun at the LCD Soundsystem and Queens of the Stone Age shows!

Those aren’t skylights…above the cymbals is the bottom of a pool.
